Lentil As Anything is the most unique place I've had the pleasure of eating at in Australia. With locations around the country, Lentil as Anything operates as a haven for asylum-seekers by running solely on donations and volunteers. They serve 100% vegetarian food and always have many vegan options. While in Melbourne, I popped into their Abbotsford location for breakfast twice and dinner once...it was just that good!
This quirky restaurant has a casual, artsy vibe. They often have live music playing outside and inside looks almost like an art gallery with paintings and photos by local artists dotting the walls. Everywhere you look, there's something cool to look at or nice to hear.
For breakfast, I tried the corn cakes (pictured below) and the potato dosa. Both were so flavorful with harissa and other sauces to complement the meal. I still dream about both of those breakfasts everyday!
For a restaurant experience that's different from the rest, head on over to Lentil as Anything. The pay-what-you-feel motto allows those on a budget to enjoy good food without overspending. But PLEASE, do not take advantage of Lentil's generosity! Your donations are the only funding they get so if you can afford it, please donate at least the recommended ten dollars. If the service was awesome, or the music was amazing, or your food was just downright delicious, throwing in $5 or $10 extra dollars to show your support.
