I didn't know what to expect when I went to Hobart. Was it a progressive city with lots of vegan eateries or would I be scraping the bottom of the barrel, stuck with wilty green salads and lemon juice as a dressing? Much to my surprise, Hobart offered a decent variety of vegan and vegan-friendly spots, many of which were Asian or Indian, which is totally fine by me!
We spent our time in Hobart couch surfing with our friend Nick. After taking us out to MONA and Bruny Island, he drove us to Monsoon Thai Fusion, a super vegan-friendly Thai restaurant in Hobart's Battery Point area. They had a special vegan menu (yay!) with options like noodles, curries, and salads.
My friend and I split the vegan "duck" roti. It tasted really nice with the hoisin sauce they used to decorate the plate. We thought the portion would be bigger for the price, though.
As my main, I went with the Pad Thai noodles as everything else seemed to be very mushroom heavy (I'm not a fan of mushies at all!). The Pad Thai noodles were soft and flavorful. It was packed with veggies like zucchini, mung beans, and broccoli.
While Monsoon Thai was a bit pricey, I was glad to see a restaurant in Hobart cater so nicely to vegans. I'd definitely recommend, especially if you're looking for a nicer meal in Tasmania!
