The Green Edge

Not quite as vegan-friendly as Sydney or Melbourne, Brisbane's foodie landscape is dotted with a few vegan restaurants. Most notably is The Green Edge.

The Green Edge is an unassuming vegan cafe and grocer aka vegan girl heaven. Their menu is filled with plant-based versions of classic favorites like meatball subs, nachos, and hefty burgers. My friend and I decided to split the veggie burger and the meatball sub.

The veggie burger was so on point. The house made lentil patty had a nice flavor and held together really well. It didn't crumble and fall a part as veggie patties have the tendency to do. The caramelized onions added a really nice sweetness and the guacamole was the perfect creamy cool addition to this insane burger.

The meatball sub didn't quite match up to the veggie burger, unfortunately. While the meatballs themselves were tasty, I found the sub lacking. All it really consisted of was a white baguette, an uninteresting tomato sauce, faux meatballs, and a sprinkling of Daiya cheese. I felt like I could make this at home! The meatball sub could've benefitted from an interesting textural element--toasted pepitas maybe? Some fresh torn basil? Even a house made cashew cheese would've improved this bland and boring dish.

Though the meatball sub disappointed me, The Green Edge won points with their delicious coffee frappe. Topped with soy whipped cream and served in a tall diner-style glass, this iced coffee was reminiscent of the creamy Starbucks frapuccinos I used to drink in high school. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water!

For a city with limited vegan options, The Green Edge cafe is a winner. The coffee frappe is a must-order, as is the veggie burger.
